About

Dr Itunu Johnson MBBS BSc MRCP MRCGP DFSRH DRCOG (previously known as Itunu Johnson-Sogbetun) is a UK General Practitioner, British Menopause Society (BMS) Registered Menopause Specialist, educator, and award-winning leader in women's health with 15 years of clinical experience. She is recognised for providing compassionate, evidence-based, person-centred care, taking the time to understand not only her patients' symptoms but also the wider physical, emotional, psychological, and social factors that shape health and wellbeing.

Dr Johnson provides both specialist women's health and menopause consultations and comprehensive private GP appointments for women, men, and children at The Wellington Hospital in London. She also offers remote consultations and home visits in and around North West London. She believes that excellent healthcare begins with listening, building trusted relationships, and empowering patients to make informed decisions about their health. Every consultation is tailored to the individual, recognising that no two patients or health journeys are the same.

She qualified at University College London Medical School and then began her postgraduate training in London, completing the Foundation Training Programme and the Core Medicine Training Programme and achieving her Membership of the Royal College of Physicians. She went on to complete General Practice Vocational Training in Hertfordshire and achieved her Membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners. As she developed her expertise in women's health and menopause, she also gained postgraduate Diplomas from both the College of Sexual and Reproductive Health and the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. In addition, she has completed the Advanced Certificate in the Principles and Practice of Menopause Care from the British Menopause Society, undertaking this training at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital.

This extensive and rigorous training gives her a broad understanding of complex medical conditions and how different body systems interact. It enables her to deliver truly holistic care, considering the whole person rather than focusing solely on individual symptoms. Her experience spans dermatology, psychiatry, diabetes and endocrinology, oncology, geriatrics, neurology, stroke medicine, and neurorehabilitation, allowing her to confidently manage patients with multiple or complex health needs.

Dr Johnson has a specialist interest in women's health, menopause, sexual and reproductive health, and cardiometabolic wellbeing. She supports women through every stage of life, with expertise in premenstrual syndrome, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), menstrual disorders, contraception, perimenopause, menopause, weight management, metabolic medicine, and healthy ageing.

She is internationally recognised for her work exploring ethnic variations in women's health, particularly menopause, and has become a leading voice on improving outcomes for women of colour, including Black women. This expertise strengthens the care she provides to all women by ensuring her approach reflects the latest evidence on how ethnicity, culture, genetics, and lived experience can influence symptoms, risk factors, diagnosis, and treatment. She is passionate about delivering inclusive, culturally competent healthcare so that every patient feels seen, heard, and understood.

Alongside her clinical work, Dr Johnson is helping to shape the future of women's healthcare nationally. She is Co-Chair of the Royal College of General Practitioners Women's Health Special Interest Group, a committee member of the Primary Care Women's Health Society, and Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Lead for the RCGP North West London Faculty Board. She is also a GP Tutor at Queen Mary University of London Medical School, where she teaches the next generation of doctors.

A respected speaker, educator, author, and media commentator, Dr Johnson contributes regularly to national conferences, educational programmes, and print and broadcast media, helping to improve understanding of women's health and menopause among both healthcare professionals and the public.

Her contributions have been recognised with national awards, including Primary Care Professional of the Year at the Black Healthcare Awards and Outstanding Achiever of the Year at the Menopause in Practice Awards, recognising her commitment to clinical excellence, education, leadership, and advancing equitable healthcare.

Dr Itunu Johnson previously practised under the name Dr Itunu Johnson-Sogbetun.
