Dr Farhan Ahmad is a Consultant Interventional Radiologist who qualified from St Bartholomew’s Medical School in 1998 and was appointed to his consultant post at Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust in 2009.
He has developed particular expertise in minimally invasive treatments for thyroid conditions and was among the earliest clinicians in the UK to introduce a dedicated thyroid ablation service in 2018. His clinical work includes radiofrequency and ethanol ablation of thyroid nodules, and he accepts referrals for thyroid assessment from both primary and secondary care, treating patients from across the UK.
Alongside his clinical practice, Dr Ahmad plays an active role in research. He is a senior researcher within the University of Reading Applied Health Research group and is currently completing postgraduate studies at the University of Reading. He leads Health Research Authority–approved studies investigating minimally invasive thyroid therapies and has secured research funding from the British Society of Interventional Radiologists and Merit Medical Ltd.
Dr Ahmad regularly contributes to national professional meetings as an invited speaker, including events organised by the British Society of Interventional Radiology, the British Association of Endocrine and Thyroid Surgeons, and the British Thyroid Foundation. He also supports other clinicians by proctoring procedures and advising hospitals on the safe introduction of minimally invasive thyroid techniques.
His wider clinical interests include vascular radiology and uroradiology, with experience in kidney cryoablation and prostate imaging.
