Professor Ashutosh Wechalekar is an internationally renowned Consultant Haematologist specialising in plasma cell disorders. His expertise includes MGUS, multiple myeloma, monoclonal protein–related disorders (MGRS), and all forms of amyloidosis, with a particular focus on AL amyloidosis.
He works within the largest myeloma service in the UK and leads Haematology at the National Amyloidosis Centre, where he also heads the AL amyloidosis treatment programme. In addition, Professor Wechalekar is the Director of the laboratory at the National Amyloidosis Centre, overseeing advanced diagnostic and research activity in this highly specialised field.
Professor Wechalekar is involved in clinical research and has played a pivotal role in developing a national clinical trials network for AL amyloidosis across the UK. He serves as Principal Investigator and Chief Investigator on multiple national and international clinical trials in myeloma and related disorders, contributing significantly to advances in patient care and outcomes.
He has published extensively in leading national and international journals and is widely recognised for his contributions to the understanding, diagnosis and treatment of amyloidosis and plasma cell disorders.
