Dr Humphries is a Consultant Gastroenterologist and Specialist Endoscopist based at London Digestive Health, at HCA Healthcare UK, where he works with a multi-disciplinary team of gastroenterologists, GI surgeons, radiologists, GPs, dieticians and specialist nurses.
Dr Humphries cares for patients with all types of digestive symptoms and conditions, and many patients are referred to him for his specialist expertise in endoscopy and polyp removal. He aims to provide patient centred care by listening to patient’s concerns, providing clear explanations and offering a personalised, holistic approach to management supported by the multi-disciplinary team at LDH.
Dr Humphries qualified from Imperial College Medical School in 2002 and undertook his specialist gastroenterology training within London from 2005-2013. He then completed a fellowship in advanced and small bowel endoscopy at St Mark's, The National Bowel Hospital, before being appointed there as a Consultant. As Director of Endoscopy at St Mark’s for 10 years, he developed extensive expertise in advanced endoscopy, including complex polyp removal, video capsule endoscopy and double‑balloon enteroscopy. He is also nationally accredited in bowel cancer screening colonoscopy.
In 2007 Dr Humphries was awarded a Cancer Research UK Clinical Research Fellowship and subsequently gained a PhD in 2012 from University College London for research into the biology of gastrointestinal tumours. Dr Humphries has published in prestigious, peer-reviewed scientific journals and presented his work at a variety of national and international meetings. His ongoing research interests include bowel cancer prevention, endoscopy, evolution of pre-cancerous growths (polyps) within the gut and the diagnosis and treatment of small bowel diseases.
