David Fackrell

Dr David Fackrell is a Consultant Clinical Oncologist with specialist expertise in prostate, bladder and kidney cancers, as well as cancers of the oesophagus and stomach. He combines up-to-date, evidence-based treatment with a clear and compassionate communication style, ensuring patients feel informed and supported throughout their care.

After completing a degree in Genetics at the University of Liverpool, Dr Fackrell qualified in Medicine from the University of Warwick in 2006. His early academic interest in cancer biology developed into a career focused on the delivery of modern radiotherapy and systemic treatments tailored to the individual needs of each patient.

He was appointed as a Consultant at University Hospitals Birmingham in 2017. Alongside his clinical practice, he remains actively involved in research and education, contributing to peer-reviewed publications and presenting his work nationally and internationally. He also holds roles with the University of Birmingham.

Dr Fackrell plays an active part in shaping the future of his specialty through his work with the Royal College of Radiologists. He serves as an interviewer for national Clinical Oncology recruitment, is West Midlands Trainee Lead, and is a member of the Clinical Oncology Recruitment Committee. These roles reflect his commitment to maintaining high standards in training and patient care across the profession.

Patients value Dr Fackrell’s calm, approachable manner and his emphasis on shared decision-making. He believes that taking time to explain diagnoses and treatment options clearly allows patients and their families to make confident, informed choices.

Outside medicine, he is a father of two and a keen cyclist, and he enjoys following football, cricket and rugby
