Mr Ciaran Hill is a Consultant Neurosurgeon and Honorary Associate Professor specialising in neurosurgical oncology.
He delivers care within a specialist multidisciplinary team, ensuring that surgical, radiotherapy and medical treatment options are considered in a coordinated and evidence-based way. His practice focuses on maximising tumour treatment while preserving neurological function and quality of life.
His surgical practice emphasises function-preserving surgery. This includes awake craniotomy and intraoperative brain mapping to protect critical functions such as speech and movement. Where appropriate, he uses minimally invasive approaches to reduce tissue disruption and support recovery, with attention to surgical planning and cosmetic outcomes. He also offers stereotactic radiosurgery, including Gamma Knife treatment, alongside open surgery, providing both surgical and non-invasive treatment options.
Mr Hill trained at Barts and The Royal London Medical School, graduating top of his year with a double distinction. He completed specialist neurosurgical training in London, including an academic clinical lectureship in neuro-oncology at Queen Square. He holds a Master’s degree in Clinical Neuroscience (Distinction) from UCL and a PhD from the University of Cambridge.
He leads a translational research programme focused on the biology of brain tumours and the development of new treatments. This informs his clinical practice and supports consideration of emerging therapies and clinical trials where appropriate. He is an Honorary Associate Professor at University College London and has published widely in neuro-oncology.
He holds national roles in neurosurgery and neuro-oncology and contributes to the design and delivery of clinical and translational studies. He also holds senior leadership roles in teenage and young adult oncology, clinical governance and medical education, with responsibility for patient safety and the training of neurosurgeons.
In addition to neuro-oncology, he treats selected other intracranial conditions, including pineal region tumours, arachnoid cysts, cavernous malformations and trigeminal neuralgia.
