Carys Karkar is a highly experienced and compassionate midwife with a strong background in both NHS and private maternity care. She began her career at Liverpool Women’s NHS Foundation Trust, the UK’s largest single-site maternity hospital, where she gained extensive experience across all areas of maternity. Carys has since worked across a range of settings, including international placements in Uganda and time spent living abroad in Dubai. This broad experience has shaped her adaptable and culturally sensitive approach to care.
Carys’s clinical interests span the full perinatal journey, with a particular focus on antenatal education and support, postnatal recovery, infant feeding, and newborn wellbeing. She is a certified NIPE (Newborn and Infant Physical Examination) practitioner, qualified in tongue tie (Ankyloglossia) management (Frenulotomy), and an independent prescriber. She is currently undertaking training to become an International Board- Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), further enhancing her ability to support families with feeding challenges.
Alongside her clinical work, Carys is co-founder and CQC-registered manager of a private Tongue-tie and Infant Feeding Service. She offers continuity of care throughout pregnancy and into the postnatal period, including home visits for new mothers who may benefit from support in the comfort of their own home. Her approach is holistic and family-centred, with an emphasis on informed choice and empowering parents during one of life’s most transformative journeys.
As a mother herself, Carys brings empathy, insight, and a calm, reassuring presence to her care. Families can feel confident that they are in expert hands, supported by a midwife who is passionate about helping them achieve the best possible start.
