Dr Camus Nimmo is a Consultant in Respiratory Medicine dedicated to providing high-quality, patient-focused care. He places strong emphasis on working closely with each patient to create an individualised plan for managing their condition. By ensuring patients have the time and opportunity to discuss their diagnosis, test findings, and treatment choices, he aims to help them fully understand their health. Through clear communication and careful clinical advice, his objective is to support patients in taking an active role in managing their wellbeing.
Dr Nimmo has a special interest in respiratory infections, particularly cases involving recurrent illness or infections that do not improve with standard treatment. He founded and leads the respiratory infection service within his trust. He often cares for people experiencing unexplained symptoms such as persistent cough, wheezing, or breathlessness—whether they are seeking a new diagnosis or already living with conditions like asthma or COPD. His evaluations commonly involve detailed investigations, including CT scans and lung function assessments. He also has extensive experience performing specialist procedures such as pleural aspiration, bronchoscopy, and endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS).
Committed to ensuring patients benefit from the most recent developments in medicine, Dr Nimmo is actively engaged in clinical research. He serves as the local principal investigator for clinical trials exploring new therapies for asthma, COPD, and bronchiectasis. His research work has been recognised with several scholarships supporting presentations at conferences organised by the British Thoracic Society and the American Thoracic Society.
Dr Nimmo first graduated with a BA from the University of Cambridge in 2007 and then completed his medical degree at University College London in 2010, achieving distinctions in both clinical science and clinical practice. He later undertook an Academic Clinical Fellowship at UCL and completed his specialist respiratory training in North East London, gaining experience at leading institutions including St Bartholomew’s Hospital and the Royal Free Hospital. In 2020, he was awarded a PhD from UCL for research on the use of DNA sequencing to identify drug resistance in tuberculosis, and he has published several first-author papers on drug-resistant respiratory infections.
Alongside his clinical and research work, Dr Nimmo continues to contribute to medical education. He supervises resident doctors and takes part in national respiratory training and recruitment activities. In addition to his respiratory subspecialty practice, he has wide-ranging clinical experience through his work in general medicine and high dependency unit services at Northwick Park Hospital and, more recently, the Wellington Hospital.
