About

Mr Babar Kayani is an experienced Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with specialist expertise in adult hip and knee conditions. He has a subspecialist interest in complex primary hip and knee replacements, revision (redo) hip and knee replacements, robotic‑assisted joint replacements, and failed or infected hip and knee replacements. Mr Kayani works within the multidisciplinary team at the world-renowned Joint Reconstruction Unit at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital. This is a national tertiary referral centre for patients with the full spectrum of hip and knee conditions. His clinical practice is centred on using the latest technology and evidence-based treatment strategies to deliver personalised care tailored to each patient’s symptoms, functional goals, and lifestyle demands.

Mr Kayani completed his undergraduate medical training at Imperial College London and completed his orthopaedic residency training on the North East Thames Rotation. Following this, he completed a senior fellowship in complex primary and revision hip and knee reconstruction at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada. Mr Kayani subsequently completed a second senior fellowship in robotic-assisted hip and knee replacements and sports injuries at University College London Hospital, London, England. He is a strong advocate and key opinion leader on the use of robotic technology and enhanced recovery to reduce pain, improve function, and minimise complications after hip and knee surgery.

Mr Kayani has an extensive academic portfolio, including several innovative and globally impactful studies in hip surgery, knee surgery, and sports injuries. He completed a PhD at University College London (UCL), investigating the effects of robotic technology on patients undergoing total knee replacements. Mr Kayani has served as Principal Investigator for five major randomised controlled trials at UCL. His work has been recognised through numerous prestigious awards from the Royal College of Surgeons of England, the British Orthopaedic Association, Orthopaedic Research UK, and the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS).
