Dr. Andrew King is a Consultant Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist based at The Harborne Hospital, specialising in a broad spectrum of gastrointestinal issues, including indigestion, abdominal pain, and liver abnormalities. His expertise lies particularly in liver diseases such as fatty liver, viral hepatitis, alcohol-related liver disease, cirrhosis, and liver cancer.
Dr. King is proficient in advanced endoscopic procedures and works collaboratively with radiologists and surgeons to provide comprehensive, multidisciplinary care. He also assesses patients for liver transplantation when required, ensuring a seamless approach to complex liver conditions.
He graduated from Imperial College School of Medicine, London in 2001 and completed his specialist training across several West Midlands hospitals, with advanced liver training at the Queen Elizabeth Liver Unit. Dr. King further enhanced his academic credentials through a Medical Research Council fellowship and a PhD at the University of Birmingham, where he pioneered stem cell therapy research in liver disease, conducting the first randomised clinical trial of stem cell treatment in cirrhosis patients.
Committed to advancing liver disease care, Dr. King remains actively engaged in research and clinical trials. He also plays a key role in educating future specialists as the Gastroenterology training programme director in the West Midlands and serves as a General Medical Council-accredited supervisor and endoscopy trainer on regional courses.
