Mr Andraay Leung

Mr Andraay Leung is a highly experienced Consultant Orthopaedic Spinal Surgeon practising privately in Birmingham at The Harborne Hospital. His specialist areas of expertise include degenerative spinal conditions, adult spinal deformity, spinal trauma, spinopelvic disorders, and minimally invasive spinal surgery. He treats conditions affecting the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine, and has specialist training in robotic-assisted navigation technology for spinal fusion procedures.

Alongside his clinical practice, Mr Leung is an Honorary Associate Clinical Professor at the University of Birmingham Medical School, where he contributes to the education and development of future healthcare professionals.

Having spent his early years in Hong Kong and Vancouver, Mr Leung graduated in Medicine from the University of Glasgow before undertaking higher surgical training in Trauma and Orthopaedics across the West of Scotland. He subsequently completed advanced spinal fellowships at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust, gaining extensive experience in complex spinal surgery. In 2020, he was appointed as a Consultant Spinal Surgeon at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.

Mr Leung maintains a busy NHS practice, delivering specialist spinal clinics and operating lists each week.

Committed to providing personalised, evidence-based care, Mr Leung works closely with patients to explore all suitable treatment options, from non-surgical management through to advanced surgical intervention. His meticulous approach and dedication to achieving the best possible outcomes are consistently reflected in excellent patient feedback. He was also instrumental in introducing robotic navigation technology for spinal surgery at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham in 2026.

A passionate advocate for education and research, Mr Leung serves as the Post-CCT Spinal Fellowship Lead at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. He has been involved in a number of national and multicentre research studies, including randomised controlled trials in spinal trauma and research into cauda equina syndrome, with findings published in peer-reviewed medical journals. His expertise has led to invitations to teach on the prestigious UK Advanced Spinal Trauma Course delivered by AO Spine.

Mr Leung continues to hold several leadership positions within spinal surgery. He is currently Deputy Lead of the West Midlands Regional Spinal Network for NHS England and has previously served as a Councillor for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, representing surgeons working outside Scotland. He was also selected for the Future Leaders Programme for Surgeons with the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He is an active member of several professional organisations, including the British Association of Spine Surgeons (BASS), AO Spine, the Scoliosis Research Society, and the British Scoliosis Society.

In addition, Mr Leung holds medicolegal expert certification through Strathclyde University/Inspire MediLaw, enabling him to provide independent expert opinions where required.
