Dr Amara Ezeonyeji qualified in Medicine from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne in 2002. During her medical studies she also obtained an intercalated honours degree in biomedical science. She completed her specialist training in Rheumatology and General Internal Medicine in 2002. During her specialist training, she worked at University College Hospital and The Royal Free Hospital NHS Foundation Trusts.
After completing specialist training, she gained an MD research degree from the Centre for Rheumatology Research, at University College London where she investigated the role of inflammatory cytokines in the pathogenesis of psoriatic arthritis.
Dr Ezeonyeji has been working as a consultant rheumatologist at St George's Hospital NHS Foundation Trust since 2018 where she is also the departmental clinical governance lead.
Dr Ezeonyeji practices in general rheumatology with interests in rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, soft tissue rheumatic diseases, crystal arthritis, joint hypermobility and chronic pain syndromes. In her NHS practice, she is also active in clinical research, clinical audit, and clinical trials.
In her spare time, Dr Ezeonyeji enjoys travelling and studying spanish language and culture.
