Mr Alexandru Budu is a Consultant Spinal Neurosurgeon at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham, with a specialist focus on minimally invasive and complex spinal surgery. He offers advanced care for a wide range of spinal conditions, including spinal degenerative conditions, trauma, infection, intradural tumours, spinal dysraphism, and spinal cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) disorders — with a commitment to precision, safety, and faster recovery for his patients.
Having trained at leading UK centres in the South Yorkshire region and completed a prestigious fellowship in complex spinal surgery at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge, Mr Budu combines cutting-edge techniques with compassionate, tailored care. He understands that no two patients are the same — spinal conditions affect people in deeply personal ways, and pain is experienced differently by everyone. His approach is centred on listening and understanding each individual’s concerns and designing a treatment plan that is unique for each patient.
Whether managing long-standing spinal disorders or highly complex cases, he is dedicated to delivering precision surgery with a focus on minimal disruption, faster recovery, and improved quality of life. In addition to his clinical practice, Mr Budu is an active contributor to academic neurosurgery.
He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications in the fields of minimally invasive spinal surgery and the management of degenerative cervical myelopathy. A firm believer in research, education, and continual improvement, he serves as the Research and Audit Lead at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and is a member of the FRCS (Neurosurgery) Question Writing Committee, helping shape the future of surgical standards and training. His ongoing academic work ensures that patients benefit from evidence-based care at the forefront of spinal innovation.
