Dr Alex Riding is a Consultant Nephrologist with expertise in the assessment and management of kidney disease of all causes. Her clinical practice includes chronic kidney disease, acute kidney injury, renal transplantation, hypertension and renal complications in pregnancy. She has a particular role in the management of kidney disorders during pregnancy and oversees specialist services in this area.
She graduated from the University of St Andrews in 2002 with a BSc in Medical Sciences and subsequently completed her medical degree (MB BChir) at the University of Cambridge in 2009. She undertook postgraduate training in the London and East Anglian Deaneries, achieving dual accreditation in Nephrology and General Internal Medicine. She was awarded a PhD from the University of Cambridge for research investigating the role of innate lymphoid cells in the renal tract.
Dr Riding works across two teaching hospitals in North Central London: the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust and University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Her inpatient practice includes general nephrology, acute renal transplantation and general internal medicine. She runs outpatient clinics in acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease and hypertension.
She is a member of the UK Kidney Association guideline committee contributing to guidance on the use of SGLT-2 inhibitors in chronic kidney disease and is also involved with the British Association of Dermatologists in relation to skin surveillance for solid organ transplant recipients.
