Dr Hughes trained across London's most prestigious teaching hospitals, including the Royal Free Hospital, St George's Hospital, Guy's & St Thomas' and University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (UCLH). He spent 3 years researching the mechanisms behind eczema and received a PhD for this work. Dr Hughes undertook additional training in male genital skin conditions at UCLH and set up a specialist clinic for these patients at the Royal Free Hospital.
At the Royal Free Hospital Dr Hughes is a supervising consultant in the specialist psoriasis clinic, and the lead for clinical governance in the Dermatology department.
Dr Hughes has over 20 academic publications and has presented research internationally in Amsterdam, Milan, Berlin and Madrid. He has received numerous prizes and academic awards for his work, including a competitive grant from the Medical Research Council.
