Dr Shazia Afridi is a Consultant Neurologist at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust in London, where she has worked since 2013. She established the Headache Service within the Department of Neurology and has developed a nationally recognised expertise in the management of complex headache disorders.
Dr Afridi has a specialist interest in migraine, particularly the hormonal aspects of migraine and complex migraine aura. Her research focuses on migraine imaging and the neurological mechanisms underlying headache disorders. She completed her higher neurology training in London and was awarded a PhD in Neurology from the Institute of Neurology, Queen Square, where her research centred on functional imaging in migraine. In addition to her clinical role, she is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at King’s College London, contributing to undergraduate and postgraduate medical education.
Dr Afridi has played an active leadership role in the field of headache medicine. She has served on the council of the British Association for the Study of Headache (BASH) and is a trustee of The Migraine Trust. She also sits on the scientific committee for the Migraine Trust International Symposium, contributing to the advancement of migraine research and education internationally.
She is also joint lead for Neurofibromatosis Type 2 within the nationally commissioned neurofibromatosis unit, reflecting her broader expertise in complex neurological conditions.
Dr Afridi is known for her specialist, evidence-based and patient-focused approach to neurological care, particularly in the management of chronic and complex headache disorders.
