Prof Fares Haddad is an experienced Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon. He is Clinical Director of the Institute of Sport, Exercise and Health (ISEH) and Medical Director for Orthopaedics at HCA. He is a consultant at University College London Hospitals (UCLH) and The Princess Grace Hospital. He is Divisional Clinical Director of Surgical Specialties and Director of the Institute of Sport, Exercise and Health at UCLH. He is also a Professor of Orthopaedic and Sports Surgery at UCL and editor-in-chief of the Bone and Joint Journal.

After qualifying from the Middlesex Hospital and University College Hospitals, he completed his postgraduate training at the St. Bartholomew's, Royal Free and Royal National Orthopaedic Hospitals in London. He then undertook Specialist Fellowship Training in Hip and Knee Reconstruction and Sports Medicine in Gainsville and Los Angeles in the USA and Vancouver, Canada.

He gained multiple prizes and awards throughout his training, including the Sir Walter Mercer Medal for best exam performance and the EFORT, BHS / AHS and ABC fellowships. He has been president of the RSM Orthopaedic Section, the British Hip Society and the British Sports Trauma and Arthroscopy Society. He is recognised as a key opinion leader and researcher worldwide. He is the only international member of both the prestigious North American Hip and Knee Societies.

His clinical and research interests centre around hip and knee reconstructions, including complex and revision joint replacements, lower limb arthroscopy, ligament injuries, and reconstructive surgery. He provides medical input at an elite level for ballet, football, athletics, Formula 1, tennis, cricket, rugby, boxing, and martial arts, amongst others. He was the musculoskeletal lead at the 2012 London Olympics and set up and ran the IOC research centre at ISEH, in addition to being the chief medical officer for the NFL in the UK 2015-2023.

He has presented and published widely (over 700 peer-reviewed publications) on key aspects of hip, knee, and sports surgery and continues to lead a clinical research group with interests in hip and knee joint preservation after injury, prosthetic design and performance, and outcomes measurement after hip/knee surgery and sports injuries. He has pioneered robotic-assisted joint replacement in the UK and runs a number of studies to evaluate enhanced technologies.

He is a keen athlete and played high-level rugby in his youth. He has completed several marathons with his wife and remains extremely active. Their love of sports has been passed on to their 5 children, several of whom have excelled at national and international level in running, rowing, and tennis.
