At HCA UK, we are committed to making our website and application accessible to everyone, regardless of ability. We believe that all users should have a full and equitable experience when interacting with our digital platforms. We are actively working to increase the accessibility and usability of our platforms and adhere to many of the available standards and guidelines.
Our Commitment to Accessibility
We strive to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA standards. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible for people with disabilities and user friendly for everyone. To that end, we have implemented and continuously review the following key accessibility features:
- Keyboard Navigability: All interactive elements and content are fully accessible and operable using only a keyboard.
- Semantic HTML Structure: Our platforms are built with clean, semantic HTML for clear interpretation by assistive technologies.
- Text Alternatives for Non-Text Content: We provide descriptive text alternatives (alt text) for all meaningful non-text content, so that screen readers can interpret them
- Sufficient Colour Contrast: Our color palettes ensure high contrast ratios, meeting or exceeding WCAG 2.2 AA requirements for legibility.
- Logical Focus Order: Interactive elements follow a logical and intuitive focus order for predictable navigation.
- Resize Text: Text can be resized up to 200% without loss of content or functionality
Current Implementation Scope
While we are dedicated to broad accessibility, certain features are not currently implemented due to specific design and resource considerations:
- Orientation Locked to portrait: Our application's orientation is locked to portrait mode to optimize the user experience for content. This ensures consistent, optimal clarity for complex visual information and interactive elements, benefiting users who prefer a stable and predictable layout.
- Dark mode: We do not currently offer a dark/light mode toggle. Our light aesthetic design is optimized for readability and brand consistency, with carefully chosen color contrasts meeting WCAG 2.2 AA standards. Implementing a dark mode would require significant resources for a complete redesign and rigorous testing of all visual elements, potentially diverting focus from other crucial, foundational accessibility enhancements that benefit a wider audience.
Feedback and Continuous Improvement
We are committed to an ongoing process of review and improvement to ensure the accessibility of our platforms. We continuously monitor user feedback and advancements in web accessibility.
