State of the nation: cancer update

Key takeaways

  • Cancer incidence is increasing, nearly 1 in 2 people born in the UK will develop cancer in their lifetime. With more than 1,000 new cases diagnosed in the UK.
  • The UK economy loses around £10.3 billion each year in lost productivity due to premature mortality from cancer, more than any other disease.
  • Innovation in gold standard screening, early diagnostics and treatments are all required to improve patient outcomes and minimise the economic impact of rising cancer incidence, particularly in the working population.
