Manchester maternity FAQs

Anyone can self-refer to our private services. This could be for an additional midwife appointment (£200) for reassurance or if you can't make a planned NHS appointment. You may want to see a consultant (£450) for your anatomy scan or a second opinion.

With these ad-hoc appointments, you can top up your NHS care to access the most advanced NIPT screening tests and the reassurance from midwives and consultants when you need us. If you prefer to have all of your care privately, you can opt for one of our full packages.

Midwife-led (£3500) scan and midwife (£4500) or consultant-led (£8500). By choosing one of our packages, your named midwife or consultant will be your lead professional in your pregnancy and liaise closely with the hospital where you have chosen to have your baby.

You will also become a member of HCA UK and have access to unlimited GP appointments in person or online during your pregnancy and for the first year after birth; both you and your baby will be covered by the membership.
Consultant-led care is advised for anyone who is at higher risk. If you had complications in a previous pregnancy, such as pre-eclampsia, a twin pregnancy in this pregnancy, or a health condition such as diabetes, you would be best placed with consultant-led care.

Many low-risk women also choose to be consultant-led as they feel reassured by the extra scans and monitoring that this approach provides. On a consultant-led package, you will choose your named consultant and have a scan with them at every appointment, as well as the option of NIPT screening.
A midwife is also present for all appointments, so you won't miss out on the midwifery input, parent education, birth planning, etc.

If you choose to be on a midwife-led package, your appointments can be taken at your home or in the clinic. Our midwives are trained in complementary therapies to ease common pregnancy ailments such as nausea and breech presentation.

Your midwife will check you and your baby at each appointment and use complementary therapies where appropriate. If your named midwife has any concerns, they’ll refer you to your NHS hospital or to one of the consultants at the clinic for review.

A private midwife's role is to support the mum and family as they transition into parenthood. Midwives are the experts on normality, so we are constantly watching that mum and baby are progressing through pregnancy normally.

By having a private midwife, you‘ll receive the care and support that you need for your unique situation from your named midwife, who is available for all the questions that crop up in pregnancy, whether it's your first or sixth baby.
Unfortunately, there is currently no private provision for birth outside London. We work closely with The Portland Hospital in London to transfer women who wish to deliver their baby privately. If you have chosen to deliver in the NHS locally, we will communicate with them to make sure your private and NHS care teams work seamlessly together.

Our patients' stories

Safia and family.jpg

Safia’s birthing experiences at The Portland

"I had a huge fear of birth and hospitals, so I wanted to have that 1-2-1 experience. For all three of my births, the consultants were incredible and were on call day or night."
Linseys hypnobirth patient story hero.jpg

Linseys hypnobirthing experience

‘When I first found out I was pregnant, I was nervous about the birth,’ Linsey admits. After starting maternity care at The Portland Hospital, she was told about the range of antenatal classes available. One that particularly stood out was hypnobirthing. Hypnobirthing is a technique designed to provide a calm and comfortable birthing experience. It involves practices such as controlled breathing, visualisations and deep relaxation.

HCA UK is proudly committed to improving women’s healthcare, offering tailored support that addresses each individual's needs holistically. Our expert teams strive to deliver personalised, timely and compassionate care at every life stage. We're with you when you need us.
