Cardiac care in Cheshire

Understanding your heart challenges with advanced testing

Discover expert, timely, thoughtful diagnostics that can quickly get you back to good heart health. Our consultants will use the latest tests and scans to form a diagnosis and suggest the best treatment pathway, whether that’s managed through medicine, surgery or both.

Cardiology diagnostic imaging

Our cardiology diagnostic services are supported by specialist consultants and the latest diagnostic equipment, delivering more detailed imagery and faster, more accurate results.

ECG

This is a simple, non-invasive test to assess and record the rate, rhythm and electrical activity of your heart. It can be used to diagnose or monitor heart conditions such as an abnormal heartbeat (arrhythmia), or to determine how well medication is working. It’s often used as part of a routine check-up.

Echocardiogram

An echocardiogram is an ultrasound scan used to examine the structure and function of your heart. The moving image created by an ultrasound allows your consultant to check if your heart and valves are working correctly.

Cardiac stress test

This test assesses how your heart functions under the strain of exercise. It involves walking on a treadmill at a controlled speed and incline while monitoring your heart rate and blood pressure.

01

Initial consultation

On your first visit, you’ll see one of our expert consultants. They’ll review your symptoms and your medical history, including any pre-existing issues or past surgery you’ve had. They’ll also arrange any necessary tests and scans, some of which may be able to happen that same day.

02

Tests and scans

Your consultant will use the latest and most advanced tests and scans to form a diagnosis, and they’ll discuss your results with you on the same day as your initial consultation if your results are available. If not, they’ll schedule a rapid follow up appointment.

03

Onward treatment and referral

They’ll use this diagnosis to suggest the best treatment pathway should any be required. That may involve helping you to medically manage your cardiac condition. They can also make any onward referrals that are needed for further diagnostics or treatment within our extensive HCA UK network.

It’s everything you need to quickly get expert support for your heart.

No. For life-threatening conditions such as heart attacks or strokes, you should call 999 or go to your nearest emergency department immediately.

During your initial cardiology appointment, your specialist will likely need to examine your chest area, so it’s always a good idea to wear loose, comfortable clothing that’s easy to remove or allows easy access to your chest and arms. You may also be offered a hospital gown.

We advise that you wear comfortable shoes, especially if you’ll be doing a walking test on a treadmill. It’s best to remove any jewellery before your appointment.

Many heart conditions can go undiagnosed, but the complications that arise from them are preventable. Getting your heart checked out – even if you don’t have any symptoms – can be a literal life-saver. Book an appointment with one of our cardiologists to give you peace of mind by identifying and lowering your risk of serious conditions, including coronary artery disease, cardiac arrhythmia, heart failure and stroke.

Living with cardiac symptoms and conditions can be very stressful on your body. You can help to alleviate some of this stress by looking after yourself by making some simple lifestyle changes. These include:

  • Eating a heart-healthy diet, rich in fresh fruit and vegetables and low in processed meats, fat and sugar
  • Maintaining a healthy weight
  • Cutting down on alcohol and not exceeding the recommended 14 units per week limit
  • If you smoke, giving it up
  • Taking regular physical exercise, starting slowly and gradually building up your activity levels. Ask your doctor for advice before starting a new exercise regime.
