Symptoms of brain tumours in children icon plus
If your child has a brain tumour, they may experience these symptoms:
- headaches that may be particularly painful in the morning
- vomiting/nausea
- seizures (fits)
- eye problems e.g. blurred vision
- extreme tiredness/fatigue

Diagnosis icon plus
Your child's consultant will initially discuss your child's symptoms with you. To identify and diagnose a brain tumour, they may carry out the following tests:
- CT and/or MRI scan for images of inside your child's brain
- blood tests
- biopsy (taking a sample of your child's brain tumour)

Potential treatment options icon plus
Your child's consultant will discuss the best treatment options available for them, depending on the size and location of their brain tumour. These may include:
- surgical procedures to remove all or most of the tumour
- chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy to destroy cancerous cells
- steroid and/or anticonvulsant medication to help reduce and control symptoms of the tumour
