Mr. Michael Machesney is a Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon with a specialization in colorectal cancer services. He is the chair of the Colorectal Cancer Clinical Reference Group (CRG) for England and the Pathway Director for Colorectal Cancer at London Cancer. Mr. Machesney has been a consultant surgeon since 2003 and has led initiatives to improve patient experience, safety, and early diagnosis in colorectal cancer. He was an early adopter of laparoscopic surgery and enhanced recovery for colorectal patients. Mr. Machesney has participated in the implementation of a triage straight-to-test pathway for patients with colorectal symptoms, which was shortlisted for a BMJ Award in 2014. His expertise includes colonoscopy, endoscopy (upper GI endoscopy/gastroscopy), colorectal surgery (both open and laparoscopic), banding of haemorrhoids, laying open of anal fistula, laparoscopic surgery, hernia repair (open and laparoscopic), excision of skin lesions, gall bladder removal (open and laparoscopic cholecystectomy), colorectal and laparoscopic surgery, bowel cancer, gallstones, hernia, haemorrhoids, anal fissure, and fistula.
