What is neurosurgery?
Neurosurgery describes the surgical treatment of conditions affecting the nervous system. This may involve the skull, brain or spine and can range from minimally invasive procedures for back pain to major intracranial surgery for tumours.

Your spine is made up of a column of bones (vertebrae), separated by spongy discs that act as shock absorbers. These discs can wear out with age or get damaged if you lift heavy things. A slipped disc is a common and painful condition that can be repaired with an endoscopic (keyhole) procedure.
Craniofacial reconstruction surgery can improve or correct a range of deformities of the skull as well as damage caused by trauma to the head or face. Our multidisciplinary teams of surgeons will work together to rebuild tissue, facial features and bone structure to achieve the best cosmetic result.
Spastic diplegia is a condition that affects around 25% of children born with cerebral palsy. Children with this condition can find it difficult to walk due to stiffness (spasticity) in their legs. Selective dorsal rhizotomy (SDR) treatment cuts selected nerve roots in the spinal cord to reduce stiffness.
The Leksell Gamma Knife isn't a knife at all. It was developed by a Swedish neurosurgeon who wanted to emphasize surgical precision in its delivery of gamma rays. As a state-of-the-art piece of equipment it allows a consultant to direct radiation beams to specific areas within a patient's head.
