Neurosciences Birmingham

What to expect
We’ll guide you through every stage of your private neurological or neurosurgery appointment in Birmingham, making sure we explain what’s happening and why, so there are no surprises. You’ll always have time to ask questions, so you clearly understand your options for the next steps in your treatment plan.

01

Initial consultation

You’ll begin with an initial consultation with your neurosurgeon or neurologist, who’ll listen to your symptoms, review your medical history and examine how the issue is affecting your daily life. They’ll take the time to explain what may be causing your symptoms and outline the next steps.

02

Neurological tests

Your consultant may recommend that you complete some routine neurosciences tests. These may include blood tests or simple assessments to ensure it’s safe to proceed with further investigations or treatment. These tests help the team assess your overall health and identify any issues that require attention before surgery or scans.

03

Further neurological scans

To get a clear picture of what’s happening, your specialist may arrange MRI and CT scans, so they can gain a better understanding of your condition. Once the results are available, your consultant will review the findings and tailor a personalised treatment plan just for you.

04

Neurosurgery or non-invasive neurological treatment

If surgery is recommended, you’ll attend a pre-operative check to ensure you’re fully prepared and understand what to expect. On the day of your neurosurgery procedure, your specialist team will support you from admission through to recovery, keeping you comfortable and informed at every stage.

Non-invasive neurological treatments can usually be conducted as an outpatient day case in our specialist facilities.

05

Recovery and follow-up care

Your recovery begins as soon as your treatment or surgery is complete. We’ll monitor you closely at The Harborne Hospital. If you need extra support, you’ll be cared for in our intensive care unit. Once you’re ready to go home, we’ll arrange follow-up appointments to keep a close eye on your recovery and help you return to your normal routine.
