Donor eggs are eggs that have been collected and donated from one person to use in another person’s fertility treatment. If you can’t get pregnant using your own eggs, you might use donor eggs as part of in vitro fertilisation (IVF) treatment. These eggs can be fertilised with sperm from your partner or a sperm donor.
A baby born from donor eggs will have genetic material from the egg donor. But as the egg recipient, you will carry the baby during pregnancy and give birth. You’ll also be the legal parent.
Egg donors can be someone you know – such as a friend or family member or we can find a donor for you from our donor programme.
Egg donation is a remarkable act of generosity that someone might do for all sorts of reasons. Some people also decide to share their eggs if they are already going through IVF treatment themselves. Take a look at our page about being an egg donor.

Follow-up and next steps
At the follow-up consultation, we’ll talk about your test results and get you on path to treatment, discussing next steps. If you need further tests, we offer the full range of services.
Your emotional health is as much as a priority for us as your physical wellbeing. So, as part of this package, you’ll be able to access counselling with specially trained fertility experts at every stage of your journey – for no additional cost.
Accessing private health care
You’ll meet one of our counsellors to discuss the ethical, legal and social aspects of using donor eggs. You’ll also have access to free counselling before, during and after treatment.
If you have any questions before, during or after your donation, please feel free to get in touch, a member of our team will be happy to help.
As well as access to our counselling team, we recommend the following two organisations for additional support:
The Donor Conception Network
The UK’s first and largest charity dedicated to supporting donor conception families.
Daisy Network
A support network for women with premature ovarian insufficiency (premature menopause).
“Going through IVF and finding an egg donor is so emotional and difficult, but I felt very looked after by Jaya and the great team at The Lister. We met Dr Parikh in 2017 and we now have two beautiful and healthy daughters.”
