Urological conditions we treat
Prostate cancer
Bladder cancer
When a tumour develops in the cells that make up the lining of the bladder. If you are diagnosed with bladder cancer, you will have immediate access to specialist care at our sister site, HCA Healthcare UK The Christie Private Care.
Kidney cancer
Kidney cancer starts in the kidneys, which are part of our urinary system. If you are diagnosed with kidney cancer, you will have immediate access to specialist care at our sister site, HCA Healthcare UK The Christie Private Care.
Kidney stones
Kidney stones are stone-like lumps that form in the kidney. Sometimes, they can get stuck in the ureter (tube from the kidney to the bladder), causing lower back pain and occasional blood in urine. Most stones are small enough to pass naturally in your urine. Bigger kidney stones may require treatment, which our urology consultants can provide at The Wilmslow Hospital.
Bladder stones
Bladder stones are hard mineral deposits that form in the bladder. They vary in size and are usually caused by urinary tract infections, bladder inflammation, or obstructions that prevent the bladder from emptying fully. If you’re experiencing bladder stone symptoms, we can help.
Urinary tract infection
Urinary tract infections (UTIs) can affect any part of the urinary system. Our experts can help with the diagnosis and treatment of UTIs.
Enlarged prostate
An enlarged prostate, known as benign prostatic hyperplasia, is caused by an excessive growth in prostate tissue. If you’re experiencing symptoms of an enlarged prostate our expert urologists can provide a diagnosis and treatment, if needed.
Overactive bladder
Overactive bladder syndrome (OBS, OAB) is a medical condition that results from a sudden, involuntary contraction of the muscle in the wall of your urinary bladder. The condition causes a sudden and unstoppable need to urinate, even though the bladder may only hold a small amount of urine. Our specialists provide multi-disciplinary treatment for the symptoms of an overactive bladder.
Urinary incontinence
Urinary incontinence refers to the accidental passing of urine. It affects up to 3 million people in the UK and instance increases with age. We provide several effective treatments to help with urinary incontinence.
Haematuria
Haematuria is the medical term for blood in the urine. The most common cause of blood in the urine is infection, but it can be a symptom of another condition so it’s important to have it investigated. Our experts can provide rapid access diagnosis and onward treatment, if required.
Erectile dysfunction
Erectile dysfunction or ‘ED’ is also known as impotence. It means you can’t get an erection or keep one for long enough to have sex. There are several different effective treatments for erectile dysfunction. Your consultant will recommend what options are best for you. This will depend on what’s causing your erectile dysfunction.
Varicocele
Varicocele are testicular lumps. Most causes of varicoceles are harmless, such as a build-up of fluid (cyst) or swollen veins in the testicles (varicocele). But sometimes they can be a sign of something serious, so it’s important to get them checked by a doctor. Our experts can provide rapid access diagnosis and onward treatment, if needed.
