Professor Anthony Wierzbicki trained at the University of Cambridge and attended clinical school in Oxford, qualifying in 1986. He was appointed consultant in chemical pathology and director of the lipid and cardiovascular prevention unit in 1994. Professor Wierzbicki's work in the field of atherosclerosis, comprising more than 400 publications, has led to his appointment as a Fellow of the National Association of Clinical Biochemistry (USA) and the American Heart Association (arteriosclerosis and blood pressure sections). He has been a trustee of HEART-UK (the UK cholesterol charity) and is a member of many national and international societies. He has served on numerous UK government panels in cardiovascular medicine, including for the National Institute of Clinical Excellence. His clinical interests include metabolic medicine, chemical pathology, cardiovascular medicine, hyperlipidaemia, obesity, and general medicine.
