Marc Tischkowitz

Professor Marc Tischkowitz is a Professor of Medical Genetics and Honorary NHS Consultant in Cambridge. He completed his medical degree in 1993 and initially trained in Medical Oncology before achieving his Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training in Medical Genetics. From 1999 to 2002, he undertook a PhD examining the role of Fanconi anaemia gene mutations in the development of sporadic acute myeloid leukaemia.

He previously held a Consultant role at Great Ormond Street Hospital and later joined McGill University in Montreal in 2005, where he worked as a faculty member for six years before returning to the United Kingdom to take up his position in Cambridge. His research has largely focused on Fanconi anaemia pathway genes and inherited breast cancer susceptibility, while also spanning the wider field of genomic medicine and the integration of advancing genetic technologies into routine clinical care.

Professor Tischkowitz is the Cancer Lead for the East Anglian Cancer Genetics service and serves as Chair of the UK Cancer Genetics Group. He is also an executive member of the European Reference Network GENTURIS, which focuses on hereditary cancer syndromes.

His clinical practice includes adult and paediatric genetic services, genetic counselling and diagnostic testing, cancer risk evaluation, and interpretation of gene variants. He manages common inherited cancer conditions such as those linked to BRCA1, BRCA2, PALB2 and Lynch syndrome, as well as rare hereditary cancer disorders including those affecting children. He is also involved in medico legal genetic assessments and broader areas of medical genomics.
