Dr Subramaniam Ramakrishnan is a highly experienced Consultant Physician and Gastroenterologist with over 20 years of expertise in gastroenterology and general medicine. He holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MB BS) from the University of Madras (1989) and a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Bombay (1994). In 1996, he became a Member of the Royal College of Physicians, and in 2007, he was awarded the Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training in General Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology, marking the start of his consultant-level practice.
Since his appointment as a consultant in 2007, Dr Ramakrishnan has developed a specialist interest in endoscopy, liver and pancreatic diseases, and complex gastrointestinal conditions. He has performed over 9,000 diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including gastroscopy, colonoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy, and ERCP, achieving excellent outcomes and high patient satisfaction. As Endoscopy Lead at Warrington Hospital, he introduced the Small Bowel Capsule Endoscopy service at Spire Cheshire Hospital in 2015.
Committed to service development, teaching, training, and research, Dr Ramakrishnan also serves as joint lead for the AQuA (Advancing Quality Alliance) programme, streamlining care for alcohol-related liver disease. Known for his open, patient-centred approach, he balances a busy professional life with hobbies including gardening, travel, and cricket.
