Why should I ask for a second opinion?

You can ask for a second opinion if you want the reassurance of a second expert reviewing your diagnosis and treatment plan. This may identify new treatment options, give you peace of mind regarding your current treatment decisions or allow you to take control by choosing your named consultant. How much does a second opinion cost?

You can access a second opinion through private medical insurance, self-funding, or a sponsor. Costs will vary depending on your individual circumstances.

Private medical insurance

Many insurers cover the cost of second opinion consultations, but policies vary. It’s best to check your level of cover, any exclusions, and request authorisation before making an appointment.

Self-funding

Costs will depend on your individual circumstances. Our team will be able to provide a clear estimate based on your needs.

Sponsor

If your care is being paid for by a third-party such as an embassy, employer or health office, we will need a letter of guarantee and deposit and, in some cases, payment beforehand.
