Miss Hey is a fellowship trained Consultant ENT Surgeon and Laryngologist at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. She specialises in voice, airway, and swallowing disorders, with a particular focus on the care of professional voice users.
After graduating from the University of Edinburgh, Miss Hey completed specialist ENT training in the East of Scotland Deanery. She then undertook the prestigious Royal College of Surgeons of England accredited fellowship at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals, gaining considerable experience in advanced laryngology. Her subspecialist training was further augmented through travelling fellowships at internationally renowned voice centres, including the Massachusetts General Hospital Voice Center in Boston and the University Hospital of Rouen in France, where she further developed expertise in the care of professional voice users, neurolaryngology and phonomicrosurgery.
Alongside her clinical work, Miss Hey maintains an active academic and educational profile. She has authored over 40 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters, delivered more than 100 presentations and received awards for her work both nationally and internationally. She is an elected member of the Faculty of Surgical Trainers at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Education. She is regularly invited to teach on the faculty of phonosurgery and laryngology courses in the UK and internationally. She also contributes to European training initiatives, serving as head of the written examination for the European Board Examination in Laryngology and as Director of the mentoring programme within the European Laryngological Society.
Miss Hey also hosts The Voice Box, the official podcast of the Union of European Phoniatricians, which reaches a global audience. It includes a dedicated subseries on the care of the artistic voice and performers.
She is known for her approachable and reliable manner with both patients and colleagues. Her commitment to high standards of patient care has been recognised with Guy’s and St Thomas’ Trust awards in both the “Act with Integrity” and “Put Patients First” categories.
