About
Professor Toby Richards holds a BSc., MBBS., MRCS., FRCS., MD., and FRACS. He occupies the Lawrence Brown Chair in Vascular Surgery and holds honorary professorships at the Institute of Clinical Trials and Methodology, University College London (UCL), and in Anaesthesia at Monash University.
Trained at St Bartholomew's Medical School, London, he graduated in 1995 with distinction. Following surgical training in Oxford, he pursued advanced vascular fellowships in Nottingham and Melbourne. With ten years of practice as a consultant at UCLH, he was appointed full Professor at UCL in 2015, later assuming a five-year post as the Lawrence Brown Chair in Vascular Surgery in Australia.
Specializing in vascular surgery, Professor Richards is accredited in the UK (FRCS) and Australia (FRACS), boasting two decades of experience in open and endovascular techniques. He has played a pivotal role in pioneering endovascular surgery, integrating carotid and stroke pathways, and managing complex venous disease and DVT.
With a wealth of experience, expertise, and knowledge in patient care, Professor Richards offers comprehensive opinions and treatment options in both open and endovascular surgery, ensuring the best care for his patients' health and welfare.
Additionally, he focuses on clinical trials and translational research, leading teams dedicated to addressing clinical problems. He has led clinical trials units at UCL and UWA, specializing in patient-centered research and translational science. His research has garnered over $20M in funding, resulting in over 200 peer-reviewed manuscripts with more than 12,000 citations and 30,000 downloads, including groundbreaking trials and international guidelines published in journals such as The Lancet and British Journal of Surgery.

Specializing in venous disease, carotid disease, aortic disease, and peripheral vascular disease, his treatments include varicose veins management, venous insufficiency, acute and chronic DVT management, carotid endarterectomy, carotid stenting, AAA open and EVAR, lower limb bypass, minimally invasive angioplasty, stenting, atherectomy, shockwave therapy, and diabetic foot disease.
