Sotirios Bisdas is a Consultant Neuroradiologist and MRI Lead, and Professor of Neuroradiology and Radiology at University College London and Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen, Germany. He is based clinically at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in London, where he leads advanced MRI practice within the Department of Neuroradiology.
Professor Bisdas completed his MD thesis in psychiatry following joint studies at the University of Athens and the University of Mainz, before undertaking specialist training in Radiology and Neuroradiology at Hannover Medical School, the University of Frankfurt, and the University of Tübingen. He further advanced his academic career with a post-doctoral scholarship in neuroradiology research at the Medical University of South Carolina, USA. He also holds an MSc in Advanced Oncology from the University of Ulm and a postgraduate diploma in Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence.
His clinical and academic expertise spans advanced CT, intraoperative MRI, advanced and functional MRI, and molecular MR-PET imaging, with a particular focus on brain and spinal diseases. He is internationally recognised for his work in neuro-oncological imaging and also undertakes specialist medicolegal work relating to brain and spine pathology.
Professor Bisdas has authored over 160 peer-reviewed publications and more than 10 book chapters, with an h-index exceeding 30. He has served as principal or chief investigator on multiple clinical imaging trials, attracting over £1 million in intramural and external research funding.
He is a Fellow of the European Society of Neuroradiology, the European Society of Head and Neck Radiology, and the British Society of Head and Neck Radiology. In addition, he serves on the editorial boards of several leading radiology and neuroradiology journals, acts as a reviewer for major neuroimaging publications, and is a member of the Executive Committee of the European Society of Head and Neck Radiology and the Head and Neck Committee of the European Society of Neuroradiology. He is currently the clinical lead of a flagship neuro-oncology programme, a joint initiative between the Institute of Healthcare Engineering and the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery.
