Diagnostic imaging helps to diagnose cancer, it also guides cancer treatment decisions and is used throughout your care to monitor how well your treatment is working. You may have been referred for tests due to certain symptoms, or if you have already been diagnosed with cancer, to determine the type and stage.
We know that waiting for results can be an anxious time, which is why we provide rapid access to tests and results. Our state-of-the-art scanning facilities are led by expert radiologists who specialise in specific tumour types, ensuring precise detection and accurate staging. If you are diagnosed with cancer, you’ll have immediate access to a multi-disciplinary team who will work together to create a treatment plan that’s tailored to you.
Tests and scans offered at The Christie Private Care in Manchester
In addition to advanced imaging, we also offer a wide range of blood tests and biopsies for a comprehensive diagnosis.
MRI scan (magnetic resonance imaging)
CT scan (computed tomography)
CT scans use X-rays and advanced imaging to capture detailed, cross-sectional views of the body, showing the size, shape, and location of tumours. They are used for diagnosis, treatment planning, and monitoring your treatment.
PET scan (positron emission tomography)
A PET scan helps detect cancer by showing how cells in the body are working. It involves injecting a small, safe amount of radioactive tracer into your bloodstream, which can highlight areas of abnormal activity. This scan is used for diagnosis, staging, and monitoring treatment.
We also use the latest PET-CT technology, which combines both PET and CT technology, to create a more detailed view in just one scan.
Ultrasound scan
Ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves to create real-time images of organs, tissues, and blood flow.
H3 Mammogram (2D and 3D)
A mammogram uses low-dose X-rays to detect early signs of breast cancer before they can be seen or felt. Each breast is X-rayed individually, twice, and from different angles to ensure a clear and accurate image. Mammograms can be part of routine breast screening or a one-stop breast clinic appointment for further assessment.
Endoscopy
An endoscopy allows doctors to examine inside the body using a thin, flexible tube with a camera. It can be used for diagnosis, biopsies, or certain procedures. Our dedicated endoscopy unit performs upper and lower GI endoscopies, including gastroscopy, sigmoidoscopy, and colonoscopy. The unit is JAG-accredited and works alongside interventional radiologists to provide expert diagnostic and therapeutic care.
Patient story
A routine health check led Graham to a PSA blood test, MRI, and biopsy - confirming high-risk prostate cancer. Thankfully further scans, including a PET scan, showed the cancer hadn’t spread, helping his team create a personalised care plan. Graham shares his experience and his decision to have robotic surgery at The Christie Private Care.
