Advanced robotic surgery in Manchester
At The Christie Private Care, our expert consultants use advanced robotic technology to perform a range of cancer surgeries with greater precision. With the da Vinci® Xi Surgical System here in Manchester, we can offer less invasive surgical options.
A precise, less invasive option for surgery
Robotic-assisted surgery is a type of minimally invasive procedure where your consultant uses advanced robotic instruments to carry out complex surgery with exceptional accuracy.
We have extensive experience in providing robotic surgery, in 2010 we were the first independent provider to offer this surgical option in the North-West of England, and across the HCA Healthcare UK network we are the largest independent provider of robotic surgery in the UK. Today, at The Christie Private Care we use one of the most advanced systems available the da Vinci Xi.
If robotic assisted surgery is recommended as part of your treatment, it means your consultant can operate through just a few small incisions. This can help reduce discomfort, lower the risk of complications, and often shorten your recovery time. Your consultant remains in full control throughout, guiding the robotic instruments to perform delicate movements.
Robotic-assisted surgery for cancer
Robotic-assisted surgery can be used to treat a range of cancers - particularly when the tumour is hard to reach or when protecting nearby tissue or nerves is important. Your consultant will explain whether robotic surgery is an option for you and make sure you have all the information you need to make an informed decision about your surgery.
Procedures include:
- Prostate cancer: Robotic assisted radical prostatectomy is one of the most advanced and widely used techniques for treating prostate cancer. It allows for greater precision and may help reduce the risk of nerve damage.
- Kidney cancer: Robotic assisted partial nephrectomy offers a precise way to remove tumours while preserving healthy kidney tissue.
- Bladder cancer: Robotic assisted cystectomy allows accurate removal of the bladder with less disruption to surrounding structures.
- Bowel cancer: Procedures such as robotic assisted colectomy and total mesorectal excision can reduce the likelihood of needing a stoma.
- Gynaecological cancers: Robotic assisted surgery can be used to treat several types of gynaecological cancers including ovarian, cervical and endometrial cancers.
- Liver and pancreatic cancer: For selected cases, robotic hepatectomy and pancreaticoduodenectomy (Whipple procedure) offer a minimally invasive alternative to open surgery.
Robotic-assisted procedures for other conditions
Robotic-assisted surgery can also be used for non-cancer conditions - providing a less invasive alternative to traditional surgery and helping you recover more quickly. Our highly skilled surgeons can provide robotic-assisted surgery for several general surgical conditions, including hysterectomies. Robotic-assisted surgery is also increasingly being used to treat endometriosis, offering a less invasive surgical option, with smaller incisions and less post operative pain.
Your consultant will guide you through your options and help you decide if robotic-assisted surgery is right for you.
