Expert cancer surgery in Manchester
At The Christie Private Care, our expert consultant surgeons perform a wide range of cancer surgeries in state-of-the-art facilities, using the most advanced techniques, so you can be assured of the best possible treatment and care.
The cancer treatment that’s right for you
Surgery is one of the most common treatments for many types of cancer. If you have been diagnosed with cancer your medical team may recommend surgery as part of your personalised treatment plan. Cancer surgery is primarily used to remove a tumour or reduce its size.
Surgery can also be used to help diagnose and stage cancer, to reconstruct a part of the body, to relieve the symptoms of more advanced cancer, or to reduce an individual’s risk of developing cancer.
From open, laparoscopic and robotic-assisted surgery, to advanced procedures such as HIPEC with cytoreductive surgery, at The Christie Private Care you’ll be cared for by experienced surgeons who perform routine and complex operations across almost all types of cancer, including rare and complex cancers.
Our surgeons also work closely with colleagues across radiotherapy, systemic anti-cancer therapies, interventional radiology, stem cell transplantation, and other specialties, as part of a multidisciplinary team, ensuring every part of your care is considered as part of your recommended treatment and care plan.
When you choose The Christie Private Care for cancer surgery you’re choosing:
- A multidisciplinary team (MDT) of cancer experts focused on you. Our teams include specialists in oncology, surgery, radiology, pathology and other specialist areas of cancer treatment, all working together to deliver your comprehensive, personalised treatment and care.
- Your choice of consultant. Your chosen consultant will personally oversee your treatment, ensuring continuity and reassurance through every stage of your care.
- Expertise in rare and complex cancers. As well as treating common cancers, our surgeons specialise in procedures for even the most rare conditions.
- Dedicated support from a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS). Your named CNS is an expert in your specific type of cancer, providing personalised guidance and support throughout your treatment.

- A dedication to quality and safety. We are rated as ‘Outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
A spotlight on specialist surgery
We have the surgical expertise and advanced technology to provide a wide range complex surgical procedures, including:
Robotic-assisted surgery using the da Vinci® surgical system enables precise operations through small incisions. Robotic surgery has been part of care at The Christie Private Care since 2010, making us the first provider in the independent sector to offer it in the North West of England.
Where possible, laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery can be used to remove tumours through small incisions, leading to quicker recovery times.
We regularly perform surgery for advanced or recurrent cancers, including procedures involving multiple organs. These are carefully planned by a team of experts focussing on your safety.
For peritoneal cancers, we offer surgery combined with heated chemotherapy (HIPEC), delivered directly into the abdominal cavity during the operation.
