Dr Piotr Lech is a cardiologist with special interest in cardiac imaging and intervention. He has extensive training in general cardiology and broad experience in the diagnostic, management and percutaneous interventional treatment of cardiac emergencies. Dr Lech moved to the United Kingdom in 2015 and currently works as a consultant cardiologist holding a joint position at Warrington and Halton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital. Acute cardiology in general and ischaemic heart disease in particular have always been his passion and since coming to the UK Dr Lech has been developing his specialist interest in cardiac imaging, focused on ischaemic heart disease (cardiac MRI including stress scans, transthoracic contrast and stress echocardiography, and, most recently, cardiac CT).
Dr Lech trained in Poland in an interventional cardiology unit with a large intensive coronary care subunit. He has extensive experience in coronary interventions, both in stable coronary disease and acute coronary syndromes as well as broad experience in management of ACS complications, such as acute heart failure and cardiogenic shock. To improve skills in this field, Dr LEch developed an interest in cardiac imaging, echocardiography at first and cardiac MRI later on. Gradually he steered towards cardiac imaging and away from interventions as he performed less invasive procedures and added CT coronary angiography to his skillset instead. Currently Dr Lech hold a purely imaging post focused on contributing to and developing cardiac MRI and CT services in both NHS Trusts he works at. Over the last years he has developed a significant experience in these modalities and at present imaging constitutes the most of his working week. Dr Lech holds accreditations in both imaging modalities by European Association for Cardiovascular Imaging and British Society for Cardiac CT.
