Ashish Chandra

Ashish Chandra is a Consultant Histopathologist and Cytopathologist with extensive expertise in both gynaecological and non-gynaecological cytopathology. He previously served as Clinical Lead of his department from 2009 to 2012 and is currently the Lead Consultant for Cytopathology and Urological Histopathology.

Dr Chandra leads a growing specialist cytopathology team delivering comprehensive fine needle aspiration (FNA) services, including rapid on-site evaluation (ROSE) of palpable lesions, as well as radiologically guided and endoscopic ultrasound–guided procedures (EUS and EBUS). His particular clinical interests include urological pathology—covering prostate, bladder, kidney and testicular cancers—as well as advanced cytology techniques and second-opinion pathology.

Dr Chandra is an examiner for the Royal College of Pathologists (RCPath) and regularly organises and teaches courses for the British Association for Cytopathology (BAC), the British Association of Urological Pathologists (BAUP), and the RCPath. He frequently delivers lectures and practical workshops at UK Cytology Training Schools and at international conferences.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr Chandra holds several senior professional appointments. He is Vice President of the International Academy of Cytology (IAC), Deputy Editor of the journal Cytopathology, and a member of the Executive Committee of the British Association for Cytopathology. He also sits on the Specialist Advisory Committee of the RCPath and has co-authored multiple national and international reporting guidelines in cytopathology. Notably, he was the lead pathologist for the NICE guidelines on bladder cancer.

His areas of expertise include cytology and cytopathology, fine needle aspiration, EUS and EBUS-guided sampling, bladder and prostate pathology, kidney and testicular cancer, neurosafe template biopsy, transurethral resection specimens, and comprehensive urological histopathology.
