Mr James Gossage is a Consultant Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeon at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. He specialises in cancer of the oesophagus and stomach and benign disease of the upper digestive tract.
After completing his medical degree from the University of London, he was awarded a laparoscopic surgical fellowship and a HCA Foundation grant to study surgical techniques in the Professorial Unit in Adelaide, Australia. He also received a research grant from the Royal College of Surgeons and was awarded a Hunterian Professorship for this work.
Mr Gossage has specialist expertise is in oesophageal and gastric cancer as well as keyhole surgery for conditions such as gastro-oesophageal reflux, achalasia, GIST tumours and hiatus hernias. He also performs a wide range of general surgical and day case procedures, including laparoscopic hernia repair, complex incisional hernia repairs, laparoscopic cholecystectomy and upper gastrointestinal endoscopy.
Mr Gossage is actively involved in research and education of trainees. He is currently an affiliated researcher with the Upper Gastrointestinal Research Unit at the Karolinska Institute, Sweden and is also a Senior Lecturer at Kings College, London. He has published over 30 peer-reviewed articles, two book chapters and a textbook on surgery.
