Dr Justin Haslam graduated from the University of Manchester Medical School in 1989. He completed his training in the North West of England, then gained membership to the Royal College of Psychiatrists in 1993. By March 1998, he was a full-time Consultant Psychiatrist within the NHS, working at Stepping Hill Hospital in Stockport and covering the High PeaK area of North Derbyshire.
During his training, he spent three years at the Christie Hospital researching burnout in healthcare staff, providing mental health care and treatment to patients with cancer and their relatives, and teaching clinical and communication skills to trainees. Since 2002, he has worked solely in Private Practice.
Dr Haslam has a special interest in a range of general adult psychiatric conditions, including depression, bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), anxiety and addiction. He had tenure as Medical Director from 2011 to 2018 but is now solely focused on clinical practice. In collaboration with his psychology colleagues, he co-authored ‘Coping with Depression: A Guide to What Works for Patient, Carers and Professional’ in 2011, and published a paper on psychological treatment for OCD.
