Dr Rachel Byng-Maddick is a consultant rheumatologist practising at NHS Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital and privately at Wimpole Street in London. She received her medical degree from Imperial College London in 2004, and underwent specialist training in rheumatology and in general medicine in 2017 at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and University College London Hospital. She also gained a PhD on infection during rheumatoid arthritis treatment from University College London during this period. Her special clinical interests lie around arthritis – rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, osteoarthritis, crystal arthritis including gout, as well as connective tissue disease, osteoporosis, soft tissue rheumatology, and chronic pain syndromes including fibromyalgia.
She takes an active role in teaching at King’s College London where she is undergraduate lead for rheumatology teaching. She gives lectures to both undergraduate and postgraduate students as well as supervising junior doctors during their training at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital. She also has an interest in academic research, having published in a number of peer-reviewed academic journals in her particular fields of interest. She is a member of the British Society of Rheumatology, and the Royal College of Physicians
