Dr. Arun Bhaskar is a London-based consultant specialising in pain medicine, with a focus on complex pain conditions. His expertise encompasses neuropathic pain, cancer pain, visceral and pelvic pain, as well as pain interventions and neuromodulation. He also specialises in managing opioid use in patients with complicated cancer pain and opioid dependence.
After graduating from the University of Kerala, India, Dr. Bhaskar completed his specialist training in the UK at the Northwest Deanery. He began his consultant career at The Christie in Manchester, where he established the Pain Service. Throughout his career, he has been involved in numerous clinical trials in cancer pain and chemotherapy-related neuropathic pain, and has helped develop new interventional techniques for managing intractable cancer pain.
Dr. Bhaskar actively shares his expertise as a faculty member for many courses, including the European Pain School, and serves as an examiner for the European Diploma in Pain Medicine and the FIPP examination for the World Institute of Pain. His leadership roles include past Chair of the Northwest Pain Clinicians, and he has contributed to scientific committees for the European Pain Federation (EFIC 2017) and the International Meeting of the Spinal Interventional Society in London 2018. Additionally, he has represented the Faculty of Pain Medicine on the Palliative Medicine SAC at the Royal College of Physicians.
Dr. Bhaskar maintains a regular column in Pain News and serves as a section editor for the Journal of Observational Pain Medicine. He regularly publishes in peer-reviewed journals and has contributed to several guidelines on the interventional management of pain, opioids, and cannabinoids.
Dr. Bhaskar currently serves as the Head of Service at the Pain Management Centre at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and practices in London and the south of England.
