Professor Andrea Malaspina is a Consultant Neurologist and Professor of Neurology at the UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology, one of the foremost centres in the world for neurological research and clinical care.
Drawing on more than 25 years of experience in general neurology, his specialist interests lie in neuromuscular disorders and neurodegenerative diseases, with a particular focus on motor neurone disease (MND/ALS). Through both NHS and private practice, he offers expert diagnosis, second opinions, and long-term management for patients presenting with complex neurological conditions.
Professor Malaspina serves as Director of the BRC UCL Queen Square MND Centre, where he oversees a multidisciplinary programme integrating clinical care with dedicated research, all aimed at improving the lives of those affected by motor neurone disease and related conditions.
His research interests encompass biomarkers, neuroinflammation, and the underlying mechanisms of neurodegeneration, with the goal of advancing diagnostic tools and opening new avenues for treatment. He heads major clinical trial platforms and translational research initiatives across the UK and internationally, with a view to speeding up the development of effective therapies for neurodegenerative diseases.
Central to Professor Malaspina's practice is a commitment to patient-centred care. He works in close partnership with patients and their carers to foster open communication, encourage shared decision-making, and deliver treatment tailored to individual needs.
