Professor Richard Collin received his medical degree from Cambridge University and undertook his postgraduate ophthalmology training in several London hospitals, including the prestigious Moorfields Eye Hospital. He was later awarded a fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco, to study oculoplastic surgery. Professor Collin has a keen interest in teaching and was appointed Honorary Professor at UCL Institute of Ophthalmology, University of London, in 2008. In recognition of his dedication to his field, he received the Charamis Medal from the European Society of Ophthalmology for his contribution to teaching oculoplastic surgery in 2009. He has published over 300 papers and co-authored several textbooks on oculoplastic surgical topics. Professor Collin started the eyelid tumour oncology and microphthalmia/anophthalmia services at Moorfields Eye Hospital. During his career, he has been president of both the British Oculoplastic Surgery Society and the European Society of Oculoplastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
