Professor Palazzo was appointed consultant in Endocrine Surgery at Hammersmith Hospital in 2004 where he specialises in thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal surgery. His main interests are in thyroid cancer, complex and re-operative parathyroid surgery and adrenal surgery. A
Prof Palazzo qualified in 1992 and undertook surgical training on the Cambridge & North East London rotations. Following 2 years of thyroid research at St Bartholomew's Hospital culminating in a Master of Surgery from University of London he undertook endocrine surgical specialist training in Oxford, Sydney and Marseille. He is one of the UK's most experienced endocrine surgeons having performed (to 2022) over 2700 thyroidectomies, over 2400 parathyroidectomies and over 600 adrenalectomies.
Prof Palazzo teaches at Imperial College and nationally and internationally to postgraduates. He has published in excess of 150 peer reviewed papers on all aspects of endocrine disease and surgery, has authored national guidelines both in the UK and overseas. He represents UK endocrine surgery internationally as UK delegate to the European Society of Endocrine Surgery and as a member of council of the International Association of Endocrine Surgeons. He was conferred the title of Professor by Imperial College in 2019.
