Mr Asif Chaudry is a highly trained British Surgical Oncologist with an interest in Oesophageal and Gastric Cancer. He works closely with a team of medical and clinical oncologists as well as a multi-professional cancer team who provide the highest standards of care at an international level. He is dedicated to innovation in the area and leads the first team in the UK to provide Robotic Oesophageal Cancer Surgery using the latest Da Vinci Xi Robot system and also has extensive experience in conventional laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery.
He works for the Royal Marsden Hospital in Chelsea, a world renowned centre of excellence for cancer care and treatment. The hospital is was the first cancer hospital in the world and along with the Institute of Cancer Research, forms the largest comprehensive cancer centre in Europe. He is also available to see patients at the Princess Grace Hospital and Harley St Clinic.
He was educated at Wadham College, Oxford where he was awarded a scholarship and qualified from Oxford University with Distinction. His subsequent training was in Oxford, London and Seoul, South Korea at a centre that performs the highest volume of gastric cancer operations in the world. He was trained to perform Robotic Oesophageal Cancer Surgery by Prof Richard Van Hillegersberg, Utrecht, Netherlands. He is the Surgical Oncology lead or co-investigator for a number of research trials and is also the editor of the Surgical Oncology (Oxford University Press) EpCAM, in the Encyclopedia of Cancer (Springer). Gastric and Oesophageal Surgery (Oxford University Press). He chaired the cancer drug development sessions at the International Drug Discovery Science and Technology Conference, held in Xian, China in November 2007, Beijing, October 2008 and Shanghai 2009. As well as the surgical oncology session at the World Cancer Congress, Singapore 2010.
As well as Surgical Oncology, Mr Chaudry also has a extensive experience of General and Emergency Surgery including minimally invasive GI and hernia surgery and provides diligent care for patients with problems of all levels of complexity.
