Miss Cecilia Bottomley specialises in the diagnosis and treatment of various gynaecological disorders affecting women, encompassing conditions such as ovarian cysts, fibroids, and issues related to menstruation and menopause. She also provides expert opinions on early pregnancy concerns, utilising ultrasound as a key diagnostic tool in her scan-based gynaecology practice. Additionally, Miss Bottomley performs gynaecological surgeries at The Portland Hospital.
A Cambridge University graduate with qualifications obtained in 1994, Miss Bottomley embarked on her gynaecology career in London. In her role as a Consultant Gynaecologist within the NHS, she collaborates with Professor Jurkovic at University College London Hospitals (UCLH) in the esteemed Gynaecology Diagnostic and Treatment Unit, renowned internationally. Prior to this, she served as a consultant at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital for a duration of 9 years.
Miss Bottomley honed her expertise through a research MD focused on ultrasound scans and the prediction of pregnancy loss. She has since supervised research theses related to various early pregnancy conditions and has an active research interest in gynaecology and ultrasound, boasting over 40 academic publications. Furthermore, she has authored two undergraduate textbooks.
Beyond her clinical practice, Miss Bottomley serves as a Medical Advisor for the Ectopic Pregnancy Trust and has previously held the position of Scientific Chair for the Association of Early Pregnancy Units. She is a sought-after speaker, delivering regular invited lectures on gynaecology for the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, as well as other national and international organizations.
