Mr Yogesh Bhatt graduated with honours from the University of Manchester Medical School in 2004, having previously achieved a First Class Honours degree in Neuroscience from Imperial College London in 2003.
He brings more than 16 years of experience across the full scope of ear, nose and throat surgery and has held a number of senior leadership roles within the specialty. These include serving as Clinical Director of ENT at the Royal Free Hospital and Pathway Director for Head and Neck Cancer across North and East London. He currently practises as Senior Endocrine Surgeon at the Royal Free Hospital and also holds Honorary Consultant appointments at University College London Hospital and St Bartholomew’s Hospital.
Mr Bhatt is among a small number of ENT surgeons nationwide to hold the Diploma in Child Health from the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, reflecting his commitment to delivering high-level care for children. He has also served on the Council of the British Association of Paediatric Otolaryngologists.
He has completed more than 1,000 neck ultrasound examinations and is accredited by the Royal College of Radiologists, a distinction held by relatively few surgeons working in neck surgery. His early postgraduate experience included neurosurgical training at Queen Square in London before entering formal ENT training. He has worked in several high-volume centres of excellence, including Manchester Royal Infirmary, Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital and The Christie Hospital.
Following core training, Mr Bhatt was competitively selected for advanced fellowships, including the nationally appointed Royal College Training Interface Fellowship in Advanced Head and Neck Surgical Oncology at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.
In 2016, he received the British Association of Endocrine and Thyroid Surgery travelling fellowship, enabling him to undertake international training placements at leading endocrine surgery units in the United States. These included Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary in Boston, Moffitt Cancer Center in Florida, and the Georgia Regents Thyroid and Parathyroid Centre in Augusta. This experience has provided comprehensive expertise in modern thyroid and parathyroid surgery. He continues to maintain close professional collaborations with these centres, as well as with the thyroid cancer service at Institut Gustave Roussy in Paris.
He has chaired the Royal Free Hospital Thyroid Cancer Multidisciplinary Team since 2017 and has led the Parathyroid Surgery service since 2018. He also contributes to the World Congress on Thyroid Cancer.
Alongside his clinical work, Mr Bhatt is actively involved in medical education. He holds a postgraduate certificate in medical education from the University of Manchester and teaches as an undergraduate tutor at University College London Medical School, while also supporting postgraduate foundation doctors as a tutor.
