Palliative Medicine

Vinnie's services are available to patients receiving care at any HCA UK facility in London.
Vinnie specialises in the multidisciplinary, holistic management of people facing or affected by a life limiting illness. He also provides symptom control services to people affected by treatment for existing conditions, including where that treatment is aimed at cure. His particular clinical interests include pain management and anticipatory care planning.
Vinnie's primary medical qualification is from Leeds University, where he also completed a degree in Psychology in relation to Medicine. He developed his interest in palliative medicine after seeing the difference that this type of care can make to the lives of those affected by a life-limiting illness.
Vinnie has several years' experience as a consultant in palliative medicine in NHS
hospitals, hospices and the community in and around London and, between 2014 and 2020, uniquely in the independent sector, was employed directly by The London
Clinic to lead the provision of their in-house palliative care service. Under Vinnie's leadership, the end of life care service was rated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) as ‘outstanding' in 2017.
In 2020, Vinnie left to take up his current position as consultant in palliative medicine
at HCA, based mainly between The Harley Street Clinic, LOC (Leaders in Oncology Care) and The Wellington Hospital.
Vinnie and the rest of the HCA team work closely with nursing, medical and allied healthcare professionals across the London facilities and liaise with teams in the community and in other hospitals, to ensure that people receive the care that they need, wherever they are. Vinnie's services are available to people with any underlying disease or illness (whether cancer or non-cancer), at any stage of that illness.
Vinnie has held senior clinical governance roles and maintains an interest in medical governance. He has a longstanding interest and expertise in medical ethics and law, completing a Masters degree in medical ethics and law in 2006. He has lectured widely on palliative care, and in medical ethics and law, to doctors, students and allied health professionals.
In addition to his role at HCA , Vinnie is employed in the fitness to practise directorate of the General Medical Council (GMC) and as an ad hoc specialist adviser in end of life care by the CQC.
Outside of work, Vinnie's interests include running, reading, and taking an active role in family life.
